Press release -

Lord of the waves

With its fascinating history covering gold bullion scams, Somali pirates, Panama mutineers and four round-the world-circumnavigations, Lord Jim, a 24-metre steel ocean yacht comfortably holding eight guests, is the perfect “conversation piece” vessel to have entered the luxury sailing holiday business.

Established in 2012, Lord Jim Sailing Holidays offers all-inclusive, five-star sailing and cruising holidays for small groups around the Scottish Western Isles in the Summer Season (May to September).

New for Autumn/Winter 2015-16 is a charter covering the Canaries and Cape Verde Islands. The Western Isles itineraries, departing from Stornoway, Oban, Mallaig and Mull offer options such as the Whisky Sail, where “tasting and discovery” visits to a number of leading local distilleries, at various locations, are part of the holiday, as well as sails to St Kilda, Mull and Skye, to explore these beautiful islands more fully.

Lord Jim can also be privately chartered to accommodate a small group, offering the ultimate bespoke itinerary. Lord Jim is also entering the corporate incentive market, with priced options for day experiences and longer, incorporating Distillery tours and water sports options. The company also offers private hire for weddings and exclusive dinners.

David Adams McGilp, Regional Director of Argyll and the Isles at VisitScotland, said: “Sailing is the perfect way to explore some of Scotland’s most spectacular and secluded landscapes – our dramatic rugged coastlines, endless sandy beaches and sea lochs surrounded by dramatic mountains. And with some of the finest sailing waters in the country to be found around the west coast of Scotland, a sailing holiday is ideal to experience the natural beauty of this stunning part of the world, enjoy its wealth of bird and marine life – and even take in some of our amazing distilleries en route.

“It’s always great to hear of new investment in Scotland’s sailing holiday sector and developments which extend and enhance the quality of choices for visitors, and I commend Lord Jim Sailing’s commitment to consolidate its share of the luxury charter market.”
