Press release -

Perthshire Tastes The Best!

The last in the series of #perthshire 2020 events is being hosted by the Thistle Award winning Loch Leven’s Larder and is focusing on Perthshire’s outstanding natural larder and the new VisitScotland Taste Our Best Quality Assurance Scheme.

Organised by VisitScotland and Perth & Kinross Council, on behalf of the Perthshire Tourism Partnership, the ‘From Field to Fork’ event takes place from 6 - 8pm on Thursday 1st May at Loch Leven’s Larder, outside Kinross.

This is the third and last in a series of evening tourism events taking place this year - under the #Perthshire2020 banner - as Scotland prepares to welcome the world. They bring together a range of exciting topics and speakers to inspire and inform tourism businesses to get ‘2020 vision’ and capitalise on the opportunities for this year and beyond.

The event will start with a presentation from Yvonne Cook, from VisitScotland, on the national tourism organisation’s newly-launched ‘Taste Our Best’ Quality Assurance Scheme, designed to recognise restaurants, hotels, cafes, takeaways, visitor attractions and B&Bs that not only offer a quality food and drink experience, but include and promote Scottish produce on their menus to give consumers choice.

Emma McCallum and Rob Niven, of the Thistle Award winning Loch Leven’s Larder, are also speaking at the event about their family run business which includes a farm, restaurant, deli and retail shop in Kinross. As active supporters of Scottish produce, they want to share the benefits of sourcing produce locally and how that ethos has helped them develop a successful destination eatery.

To end the evening, local suppliers have been invited to exhibit some of the produce available within the Perthshire region, allowing attendees to sample and savour many of the local products, including the new Homecoming Scotland 2014 Gin, launched just last week by Strathearn Distillery. The gin has been hand-crafted using Scottish botanicals such as thistle and heather to celebrate Homecoming 2014.

Richard Pinn, VisitScotland Regional Director said:

“With 2015 - Year of Scotland’s Food and Drink - fast approaching, this event is particularly useful for the Perthshire businesses to find out about our new Taste Our Best Scheme and how it can help them develop their business.

“It is also a great opportunity to hear first-hand from Emma and Rob, at Loch Leven’s Larder, the benefits of sourcing local produce from within Perthshire. This county does, after all, have one of the finest natural larders in the country, so I would encourage all tourism businesses in Perthshire to sign up to this workshop.”

David Smythe, Chairman of the Perthshire Tourism Partnership, said:

“I am delighted that there has already been great interest in the series of #perthshire2020 events, which have been held in collaboration with the Perthshire Tourism Partnership.

“It is important that tourism businesses seize every available opportunity presented to them not just in 2014 but beyond into the Year of Scotland Food and Drink and onward to 2020.  It is only by working in partnership we can ensure Perthshire gets it share of the growing visitor economy well in to the future.”
