Powerful boost for ‘electric’ music festival

The Electric Fields Festival is one of 21 events across the country receiving support from the EventScotland National Funding Programme, as part of VisitScotland’s work to deliver the national events strategy Scotland the Perfect Stage.

The two-day music festival set in the stunning grounds of Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfries & Galloway on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th August has been awarded £12,800.

It and the other 20 events across 13 of Scotland’s local authority areas are receiving a combined total of £232,700 awarded from Round 32 of the National Funding Programme.

Administered by EventScotland, a team within VisitScotland’s Events Directorate, The National Funding Programme was established to enable the strategic development of events taking place outwith Edinburgh and Glasgow, with the aim of driving domestic tourism and increasing economic impact for local communities throughout Scotland. 

Thanks to the funding, and in keeping with the objectives of the National Funding Programme, the regional events will now be in a position to further develop by extending and enhancing their programmes in order to increase attendance figures and improve the overall spectatorand visitor experience.

The Electric Fields Festival is now in its third year and has continued to grow in stature and popularity year on year. This year’s festival takes place for the first time over two days with more than 90 artists included in the line-up and boutique and family camping also added to the experience.

That promotes the venues as excellent visitor destinations and contributes greatly to the region’s economy - which is hugely important.”

    Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design 2016

  • 2016 will shine a spotlight on Scotland’s achievements in innovation, architecture and design through a wide-ranging, variety of new and existing activity.
  • The Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design begins on 1 January 2016 and ends on 31 December 2016 and will build on the momentum generated by the 2015 Year of Food and Drink as well as previous years including Homecoming Scotland 2014, the Year of Creative and the Year of Natural.
  • Through a series of exciting events and activity, the year will showcase Scotland’s position as an “innovation nation”, its outstanding built heritage, and its thriving, internationally acclaimed creative industries sector.
  • The Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design is a Scottish Government initiative being led by VisitScotland, and supported by a variety of partners including Scottish Government, Creative Scotland, Architecture + Design Scotland, Scottish Tourism Alliance, Scottish Enterprise, The National Trust for Scotland, Historic Environment Scotland, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS).
