Tobermory toasts to 5 Stars

Self-catering accommodation celebrates top award

A family-run business has become the Isle of Mull’s fifth five star accommodation provider following a grading from VisitScotland.

Oakfield House, situated in Mull’s capital Tobermory, received five stars from the national tourism organisation’s Quality Assurance (QA) Scheme in recognition of its exceptional standards. The QA Scheme is a benchmark for quality across the tourism industry and operates across accommodation, visitor attractions and food sectors.

A beautiful Scottish Victorian country house, Oakfield House has been owned by the same family for three generations. After a recent renovation to the property, owners Susan and Iain Maclean have incorporated modern décor and furniture whilst retaining Oakfield’s traditional antique features.

The Maclean family has been a Quality Assurance customer of VisitScotland for nearly 20 years, with Oakfield House being its second recognition after its four star QA Award for its self-catering property, Spey Cottage.

Owners Iain and Susan Maclean strive to provide excellent service and have decided to join VisitScotland’s iKnow Partner programme. This accreditation demonstrates the owner’s in-depth knowledge and expertise on topics around the Tobermory area, enhancing further the experience of visitors to Oakfield House.

Iain Maclean, owner of Oakfield House said,We are delighted to receive VisitScotland’s five star Quality Assurance Award for Oakfield House.

“Our aim is always to maximise the visitor experience for our guests and to make sure that their stay in this beautiful house is always a memorable one, so we are very keen to provide a level of luxury that really enhances their holiday experience and having this award lets our guests have confidence in the standards that they can expect when they arrive.”

David Adams McGilp, VisitScotland Regional Director, said said “Oakfield House is a fantastic example of the quality experience on offer in Tobermory and the Isle of Mull. It is of no surprise that Iain and Susan’s hard work and dedication to providing a quality service is being recognised with this prestigious award.

“The QA star gradings help visitors make informed decisions and select businesses that meet, and exceed, these expectations – now they have the recognition to showcase these values.”
