VisitScotland praises parade as ‘chance to relive Glasgow Games’ magic’

With the Team Scotland Athletes’ Parade taking place in Glasgow today (15 August) Mike Cantlay, Chairman of VisitScotland, said: “The XX Commonwealth Games made stars of our athletes and of course Glasgow itself, with the incredible Games’ atmosphere drawing visitors from far and wide.

“A recent report revealed that 93 per cent of those who experienced Glasgow 2014 events or attended Festival 2014, rated Scotland as a ‘very good’ place to visit, demonstrating that just as our athletes are delivering on the world stage, so is our tourism industry. As well as the city enjoying one of its busiest days on record, a global audience of a billion people saw first-hand that Scotland has the skills, facilities and of course the people to deliver world-class events.

“2014 has been a unique year for Scottish tourism thanks to major events like the Commonwealth Games, next month’s Ryder Cup at Gleneagles and the packed Year of Homecoming programme.

“Today is a chance for Glasgow to recreate that feel-good factor, relive the magic and celebrate with our sporting heroes what has been, and what is continuing to be, an outstanding summer of sport and culture for Scotland.”
