VIDEO: THE WORLD’S OLDEST TRAVEL COMPANY PARTNERS WITH THE WORLD’S NEWEST TECHNOLOGY WITH VISTABEE

London – 22 April 2014
Imagine being able to discover the markets of Marrakech without having to leave your sofa. Or being so lost in one of the souks that you need a map to get you out. Except you can’t find where you are on the map. Travel company Cox & Kings has partnered with VistaBee, the UK tech video start-up to use Google Glass to capture a tourist’s eye view and bring wearable technology to the international travel market.

With Google Glass, it’s possible to bring a highly realistic experience of a distant destination and allow the viewer to feel like they’re a part of the action. Cox & Kings and VistaBee explored Marrakech with the soon-to-launch wearable technology capturing the hustle and bustle of the medina.

Peter Kerkar, CEO of Cox & Kings says, ‘We’re the world’s oldest travel company but we like to embrace technology where it can enhance the presentation of travel experiences, and through working with VistaBee we have been able to bring the experience of travel online in a way never possible before’.

Steve Reilly, CEO of VistaBee says, ‘We’re delighted to bring Glass to the travel market whilst partnering with Cox & Kings and it is an excellent arrow in the quiver for the travel sector, which needs to innovate to stay ahead of the game’.

However, for all the talk of modern technology, nothing compares to the reality of being there: the smells of the spice markets; the frenetic pace of way of life in the medina; the bargaining for handicrafts in the souks. Cox & Kings has a comprehensive range of tours and short breaks to the city starting from £395 per person for 3 nights in a riad with flights, transfers and breakfast daily.
And if you get lost in the souk, just ask Google Glass to show you a map and it will get you out using its StreetView function.

Cox & Kings is the world’s longest established travel company. Its history stretches back more than 250 years to 1758 when Richard Cox was appointed regimental agent to the Footguards (later the Grenadier Guards). The company’s fortunes grew hand in hand with the British empire and by the early 20th century the company was acting as agent and banker throughout the armed forces and as a shipping agent. In 1922 Cox & Co merged with the Henry S King bank, which had strong connections with India. The bank became part of Lloyds and the shipping agency grew separately, evolving into the modern travel company. Today, built on the high quality service and attention to detail established by Richard Cox in the 18th century, the company continues to flourish as an independent tour operator, with operations in London, the US, Japan, Australia and throughout India. Cox & Kings organises escorted small-group tours and private tailor-made travel in the Indian Subcontinent, Latin America, the Middle East, the Far East, Africa, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, and the Caribbean.
