Press release -

14-20 October is Get Online Week in Caerphilly

Get Online Week – the UK’s biggest annual campaign to get people using the internet - will take place from 14 - 20 October and people from Caerphilly will be taking part in activities across the county to mark the event.

Whether you want to get connected, get a job, get healthy or get a bargain, using the internet can make everything quicker and easier. During Get Online Week, people in Caerphilly can find out how getting online could save them time, hassle and even money.

The week kicks off with a Wii Challenge taking place on Wednesday 16th October at 11:00. Teams from Risca Library, United Welsh, Caerphilly Housing and Bargoed Library amongst others will be pitted against each other.

On Friday 18 October, libraries across the county will be running digital drop-in sessions. These sessions are relaxed and informal and will introduce people to the basics of getting online as well as troubleshooting any problems people may have been experiencing

The Wii Challenge and Digital Drop-In sessions are being run by Get Caerphilly Online, thanks to backing from Communities 2.0, the Welsh Government’s digital inclusion initiative, which is funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Local Communities 2.0 Broker Matt Lloyd said: “Getting online is so important these days and is becoming even more so. The Wii Challenge and Digital Drop-In sessions during Get Online Week are designed to introduce people to digital technology in a fun way. So even if you’ve always thought the internet is not for you, why not come along and find out what it’s all about. What have you got to lose?”
