Call to IT training providers to contribute to Welsh Government’s online computer course listing / Galwad ar ddarparwyr hyfforddiant TG i gyfrannu at restr cyrsiau cyfrifiadurol ar-lein Llywodraeth Cymru

Digital inclusion leaders in Wales are calling on IT training providers to add their courses to a country-wide database of IT training resources.

‘Computer Courses Near You’ is a Welsh Government/European funded online resource that is used by staff in libraries and post offices to signpost enquiries to suitable IT courses.

‘Computer Courses Near You’ is a free online directory of computer courses and public access computer facilities in Wales. It promotes opportunities for people to learn essential ICT skills that will improve their home life, job prospects and access to services. The resource is managed by the Welsh Government’s Communities 2.0 programme but in order to keep the resource updated, course providers can add and manage their own information via the Communities 2.0 website.

Customers looking for computer courses can go to any Post Office counter and ask where their nearest computer courses are held. They will receive a print out showing the nearest venues to them. This information is also the primary resource for librarians who deal with a large volume of enquiries about computer courses because of the free internet access that is now offered in most libraries. It is linked into the UK Online Centres database which lists courses across Britain.

The ‘Computer Courses Near You’ directory is very accessible. Users can search for nearby courses by entering a town or postcode or by navigating a map. An advance search feature allows users to see all the Centres offering ICT courses in a county or to find centres that offer certain facilities.

The resource is designed to be easy to use and adaptable. Businesses which are running IT courses simply need to register and then add the details of the course or courses to the database using an online form available at http://www.communities2point0.org.uk/computer-courses-in-wales .

Businesses wishing to promote the resource can also add a widget to their own website using a small section of HTML code.

“Communities 2.0 runs or facilitates a host of different training courses for individuals and business across Wales. However, there are many other businesses running ICT training at all levels. We want to ensure that all regularly available ICT training courses are uploaded into this one resource that can be accessed by the public, librarians and post offices and then act as a signpost for all enquiries.

"Digital exclusion is a major issue for many people within our communities and we want to promote the many opportunities for learning about ICT and the internet that are available to people in Wales”.

Rheolir yr adnodd gan raglen Cymunedau 2.0 Llywodraeth Cymru ond er mwyn sicrhau bod yr adnodd wedi’i ddiweddaru, gall darparwyr cyrsiau ychwanegu a rheoli eu gwybodaeth eu hunain trwy wefan Cymunedau 2.0.

Gall cwsmeriaid sy’n edrych am gyrsiau cyfrifiadurol fynd at gownter unrhyw Swyddfa Bost a gofyn ble y cynhelir y cyrsiau cyfrifiadurol agosaf. Byddant yn cael allbrint yn dangos y lleoliadau agosaf atynt. Y wybodaeth hon hefyd yw’r prif adnodd ar gyfer llyfrgellwyr sy’n ateb nifer fawr o ymholiadau am gyrsiau cyfrifiadurol oherwydd y mynediad at y we am ddim sydd ar gael yn rhan y fwyaf o lyfrgelloedd. Mae’n gysylltiedig â chronfa ddata Canolfannau Ar-lein y DU sy’n rhestru cyrsiau ledled Prydain.

Mae’r cyfeiriadur ‘Cyrsiau Cyfrifiadurol Sy’n Agos Atoch Chi’ yn hawdd iawn ei ddefnyddio. Gall defnyddwyr chwilio am gyrsiau cyfagos trwy nodi tref neu god post neu edrych ar fap. Mae nodwedd chwilio uwch yn galluogi defnyddwyr i weld yr holl Ganolfannau sy’n cynnig cyrsiau TGCh mewn sir neu ddod o hyd i ganolfannau sy’n cynnig cyfleusterau penodol.
