Press release -

Fazed by Facebook, or terrified of Tablets? Help is at hand in Spring Online Week. / Ydy Facebook yn eich brawychu, neu ydy Tabledi’n eich dychryn? Mae cymorth wrth law yn ystod Wythnos Spring Online

A helping hand is available throughout Spring Online Week (31st March – 4th April) for people of all ages who want to learn how to use new technology and gadgets but don’t know where to start.

Communities 2.0, the Welsh Government and European Union funded digital inclusion programme is offering a range of events, courses and drop in sessions across Wales designed to help people overcome their terror of technology. Sessions on offer vary but may include introductions to online family history, using e-readers, using Facebook, iPads and Tablets as well as shopping online. Each session is designed to help people with a range of abilities from those who have never used a computer or tablet before to those who have a working knowledge but want to know how to use the technology more effectively.

Communities 2.0 is a Welsh Government project which aims to encourage individuals to use internet and computer technology so they can find information about education, jobs and financial opportunities that are available online.

The project offers a range of ongoing courses and drop-in support in community venues across Wales throughout the year. It works in partnership with housing associations and other community organisations such as the Library Service and Job Centre plus to offer access to basic computer and internet training and advice to people who need it.

Spring Online is a national campaign which was originally aimed at encouraging older people to use the internet. Communities 2.0 activities in Wales are open to anyone who wants to ‘have a go’ at using the technology.

Communities 2.0 Project Director, Cathryn Marcus said,

“Using a laptop or a tablet for the first time can be intimidating. Our events are designed to help individuals get over the initial fear and access the benefits that the technology brings, whether that is better communication via Skype or Facebook, access to money advice, hobbies and research, as well as jobs and training. Computers open the door to so much these days – now’s the time to get online – and we’re here to help”

Further information about the Spring Online events and ongoing taster and drop in sessions is available by calling 0845 474 8282 For those people who already have access to the internet but require further help, courses and ‘how to’ guides are available on www.communities2point0.org.uk
