Let’s Get Digital! Neath Port Talbot Supports National Get Online Week
October 14th marks the start of National Get Online week and the Get Neath Port Talbot Online team, part funded by Communities 2.0, are hosting a range of free events across the County so local residents can have a go at getting online.
These free courses and drop in sessions aim to get people started with the basics whether they use a computer, tablet or smart phone – demonstrating that technology is with us to make life easier, quicker, cheaper and more fun!
Astoundingly, around 37% of adults in Neath Port Talbot do not access technology – the free events are a fantastic opportunity to get online and start enjoying the benefits of a digital life. Staff and volunteers will be at all the sessions and are there to help, whether you’re a complete novice or an enthusiastic beginner.
Come along to one of the following sessions:
Monday 14 October (3:30 - 5pm) Saving Money, Glanafan Comprehensive
Tuesday 15th October (10.00 -16.00) It for the Terrified, Briton Ferry Library

Local Communities 2.0 broker Michelle Walker said: “Getting online is so important these days and is becoming even more so. Our events are designed for people who have never been online before and will be run by friendly and approachable staff. So even if you’ve always thought the internet is not for you, why not come along and find out what it’s all about. What have you got to lose?”

Get NPT Online promotes digital inclusion amongst disadvantaged communities in Neath Port Talbot. The approach involves a 14 month programme of targeting people in disadvantaged communities, older people, people who are unemployed and people with disabilities. There are three full time staff members working on the ground, who are supported by their organisations and by Communities 2.0 to deliver the project aims. Key aims are to train a core of staff and volunteers to ensure the long term sustainability of the project.
Communities 2.0 is a Welsh Government programme and is part of the Delivering a Digital Wales strategy. Communities 2.0 is delivered by four partner organisations – the Wales Co-operative Centre, Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services, Carmarthenshire County Council and the George Ewart Evans Centre for Storytelling (University of South Wales). Communities 2.0 works in the Convergence area of Wales and parts of Wrexham, Flintshire and Powys, helping communities and small enterprises to make the most of the internet.
