Local charity helps nearly 100 low income households in the run up to Christmas

Rhondda Cynon Taf based re-use and recycle charity toogoodtowaste helped over 90 low income households during the run up to Christmas after holding its annual Christmas event in the Aberdare branch to help people in need at one of the most financially difficult times of the year.

Between November the 26th to the 28th they held their Christmas event which was aimed at alleviating poverty. During the 3 day event all furniture & electrical items were reduced by 50%, they also gave away FREE pre-owned toys & Christmas decorations to customers who provided evidence that they were in receipt of a benefit. During the event over £2,800 of discount was given on over 300 items. Over 95 people purchased items during the event.

Customers who visited the event were extremely pleased with the items on offer & the selection of free items available, one customer at the event stated: “Now it’s going to be Christmas, I’ve got a free tree and a cooker.”

Shaun England, General Manager at toogoodtowaste stated;

“It’s great to be able to help local people at such a difficult time of the year, all of our customers have commented how much they have enjoyed this event and how it has helped them in their preparations for Christmas by getting the essentials in place for their families”

In another event, the local charity also raised over £500 for BBC Children in Need after holding a fundraising week in their Ynyshir and Aberdare branches between Monday 10th – Friday 14th November where they held a number of fundraising activities.

toogoodtowaste would like to thank everyone for their kind support, to make these events so successful, without the support of the community they would have been unable to help as many people as they did.
