Neath Valley company wins Welsh Government backing to boost training facilities

A Glynneath social enterprise, which provides a range of community training and social activities, has received backing from Communities 2.0, the Welsh Government’s digital inclusion programme.

Communities 2.0 has supported Glynneath Training Centre to purchase new hardware and software for use in training sessions, expand and develop its web presence, and improve wi-fi coverage within the venue. Staff at Glynneath Training Centre have also received technical advice as part of the support package. Communities 2.0 is a Welsh Government programme which is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Founded in 1978, the Glynneath Training Centre provides education, training and other services to the community of Glynneath and neighbouring areas. There are a wide range of subjects on offerfrom basic skills through to part-time degrees, available as informal learning opportunities and accredited courses. The investment in new computers, printers, servers, and other equipment, is aimed at improving the Centre’s training provision, as well as working practices within the organisation.

Rhysian Pengilley, Manager of Glynneath Training Centre, welcomed the news:

“We’re very grateful for the support from Communities 2.0. Better use of ICT is pivotal to the future of our business and will support our ongoing aims to be self-sustainable, generate our own income and reach new audiences”.

Communities 2.0 Project Director Cathryn Marcus commented:

“Communities 2.0 is delighted to be able to support Glynneath Training Centre. Its staff offer courses which can help people in the local community develop their ICT knowledge and skills. This can, in many cases, help people back on the road to employment. This investment will allow the Centre to improve its services and grow as a social enterprise”.
