Press Release

New Sponsor And Category For Adult Learner Awards In Wales

Jan 16, 2013 16:37 GMT

A new year has brought a new sponsor and a new category for the 2013 Inspire! Adult Learner Awards, organised by NIACE Dysgu Cymru.

The Welsh Government’s digital inclusion programme – Communities 2.0 – has been confirmed as sponsor of the ‘Learning in a Digital World’ category and the brand new ‘Tutoring in a Digital World’ category. The new category has been created to recognise those who have supported digital inclusion activities in Wales, by enabling others to do more with computers, the Internet and other forms of digital technology.

Cathryn Marcus, Communities 2.0 Project Director said “We’re delighted to be sponsoring two categories of the Inspire! Awards. Being able to use computers, smartphones, the Internet and other forms of digital technology is becoming increasingly important in everyday life, so it’s great that the people who are helping others to get online, as well as the learners themselves, are getting the recognition they deserve. Many people are overcoming other personal barriers when learning to use the web, and tutors are often teaching in difficult circumstances, so it’s important that their efforts are celebrated.”

Richard Spear, Director of NIACE Dysgu Cymru said, ‘We are very pleased to welcome Communities 2.0 as sponsors of these new awards.  Without the generous support of our sponsors, we would not be able to host this prestigious and inspiring award ceremony. Digital capability is essential and these two new categories fit perfectly with The Inspire! Awards’ aim to represent the range of important achievements of adult learners  in Wales.’

The full list of award categories which includes, Learning at Work, Essential Skills for Life, and Family Learning, along with how to nominate, who is eligible for nomination, and the nomination form itself, can be found on the NIACE Dysgu Cymru website (http://www.niacedc.org.uk/nominate-now).
