Pop Up Shop offers a digital trip back in time

Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum fans can take a digital trip down memory lane on Thursday 27th November when an empty office space will be turned into a treasure trove of home computer memories. Communities 2.0 and Get Caerphilly Online will be bringing its Retro Tech Tour to the Swansea Libraries Pop Up Shop to give residents of Swansea another chance to try some of the technology that was available throughout the twentieth century.

Delyth Rees from Communities 2.0 who is organising the event said,

“if you fondly remember your first Walkman, playing Donkey Kong on a Nintendo or Sonic on a Sega then this event will interest you.

“The Retro Tech exhibition is designed to show how much the IT available to us in our homes has moved on but also to demonstrate that it is a natural progression from the sort of technology available twenty or thirty years ago.

“We hope that the opportunity to look at, use and play with technology from years ago will encourage some visitors to try some of our modern technology like laptops and tablets which are now so essential in everyday life”

The event runs from 10am – 1pm in the old City Centre Management Office on Plymouth Street next to the Bus Station.

The former City Centre Management office on Plymouth Street is being transformed into a place to share ideas and enjoy cultural activities as part of the 'You are Here' project that's led by Swansea Council in partnership with a local group called The Rhizome Collective

Communities 2.0 is a Welsh Government Digital Inclusion Project that is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund. Communities 2.0 offers a range of course and drop in sessions for people who would like to learn more about using online services through a laptop or tablet.

Further information about computer courses in the area is available at http://www.communities2point0.org.uk/computer-courses-in-wales or by calling 0845 747 8282
