Welsh Government ICT support programme announced for Denbighshire social enterprise
Cynnig Glyndwr Cyf, a social enterprise which supports adults with learning difficulties across Denbighshire, Flintshire and Conwy, has received a package of support from Communities 2.0, the Welsh Government’s digital inclusion programme. The support will help the organisation to improve their efficiency, data security and reduce operational costs.
Communities 2.0 is a Welsh Government programme which is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund. The programme has helped the social enterprise to invest in upgraded computer equipment and software and specific training for staff. Communities 2.0 is also supporting the social enterprise with the development of an ICT staff usage policy, a disaster recovery plan and a review of Environmental and Equality and Diversity Policies.
Cynnig provides vital services to over 200 individuals across Denbighshire and Conwy. It was established as a ‘not for profit’ company, limited by guarantee in 1994. The organisation employs 33 staff, supporting adults with learning difficulties across Denbighshire, Flintshire and Conwy. The majority of staff are employed ‘in the field’ working with clients on a one-to-one basis, or within one of Denbighshire County Council’s work opportunities. Cynnig has developed a range of educational packages designed to assist learners to develop skills, access local facilities, progress into the employment market, or access further education courses and recreational activities. Support is provided within a variety of settings including places of work, colleges and local community facilities to promote inclusion and a sense of independence for service users.
In February 2014, Cynnig began a project which aims to lessen social isolation and improve both independence and confidence in individuals with learning difficulties. It is a three year pilot project which may progress to include the provision of activity holidays and enhancing the existing programmes to include exercise, music, arts and crafts.
Nathan Jones is General Manager of Cynnig Glyndwr Cyf. He commented, “We are grateful for the support that Communities 2.0 has been able to give Cynnig. The guidance and expertise that we have been given will allow us to invest carefully in developing our ICT systems and ensuring our policies enable us to deliver an efficient service to our current clients and the ability to benefit from future opportunities.”
Communities 2.0 project director Cathryn Marcus commented: “Communities 2.0 has supported Cynnig Glyndwr Cyf with a mixture of investment, training and consultancy that will enhance their ability to deliver to their clients across Denbighshire and Conwy. It is important that social enterprises have relevant and up to date policies in place that meet the demands of the business and their customers.
