SOS rescue for Northumbrian wedding couple

The Plough, located in the historic market town of Alnwick, is registered to conduct civil ceremonies and is offering its main wedding room free of charge for those couples who were booked to tie the knot at Longhirst Hall.

Samantha Willis, 25, who is a waitress at The Plough’s sister pub the Jolly Fisherman in Craster, was due to marry her partner, Stephen Armstrong, at Longhirst Hall on 21 June. The couple, who have been together for four years will now marry at the Plough on the same day as planned.

Sam said: “I couldn’t believe it when I found out that Longhirst Hall had closed. When I told my boss David Whitehead he immediately offered us the wedding banqueting room at The Plough for our big day.

“We have been planning our wedding for months and to find that the venue was no longer a possibility was devastating. We couldn’t recoup the money we spent so I am just so thankful to David for stepping in and saving our special day.”

David Whitehead, general manager at the Plough, said: “This situation was obviously very distressing for Sam so I was happy to be able to help out and provide her with an alternative choice. The SOS package is also available to any other couples who have planned their marriage celebrations at Longhirst Hall.”

The Plough’s wedding SOS package includes free use of the pub’s wedding room which holds up to 100 people and free use of the bridal suite. Couples can also access a wedding planner to re-plan the day, and food specially prepared by the pub’s award winning chef.
