Borough’s streets on the road to repair

The Department for Transport have confirmed that Rochdale’s share of the £200m pothole fund they have set aside for English councils will be £424,873.

This money was awarded following a bid from Rochdale Council for a slice of the multi million pound fund.

Councillor Jacqui Beswick, Cabinet Member for Highways at Rochdale Borough Council, welcomed the move.

She said: “The condition of our Highways continues to be a priority for residents and the council. Potholes not only have the potential to cause accidents, but they can also damage cars and bikes. We welcome this money and will prioritise our areas most in need of repair as well as those which have been raised as areas of concern by our residents and ward councillors.”

The pothole repair fund will complement the existing highways investment programme, which saw the council commit to spending £10m on the borough’s roads between 2013 and 2015.

Work to fix the potholes is expected to start straight away and will continue throughout the summer.
