‘Digital Eagles’ swoop in to provide IT confidence boost

Rochdale Central Library is hosting a ‘Tea and Teach’ event in partnership with Barclay’s Bank on Monday 11 August, as part of a drive to encourage internet confidence amongst the borough’s residents.

As a part of their ‘Digital Eagle Programme’, Barclays will be providing a host of enthusiastic employees who will be happy to share their technological expertise, over tea and biscuits. This event will be especially beneficial to all residents who have difficulties with basic internet and digital skills.

The event will take place from noon to 5pm with staff on hand to give practical computing advice without any confusing technical jargon. This event is designed for all those who need help connecting to or searching the internet, sending emails or making payments online, or for those who have other digital-related queries. If you have a mobile device such as a laptop or tablet, and don’t know how to use it, bring it along.

Councillor Neil Emmott, Cabinet Member for Corporate Services and Neighbourhoods, said: “I wholeheartedly welcome Barclay’s ‘Tea and Teach’ initiative to the borough of Rochdale. In an increasingly digital age, basic internet skills are a prerequisite of modern life. I encourage residents
who lack these skills to take advantage of this opportunity.”

The Barclay’s ‘Tea and Teach’ event is part of a wider scheme which places 7,000 experts, known as ‘Digital Eagles’, in branches to take questions and offer advice to customers on any technology issues they may have. If this event is well attended, it will be hosted regularly at Number One Riverside, and will also take place at Heywood Library and Middleton Library.
