  <title>Shortfalls in care system deny spinal cord injured people their independence</title>

  <description>Nearly 40% of people with spinal cord injury (SCI) feel that their care needs are not being met by relevant UK authorities, according to a research report by the spinal cord injury charity, Aspire. Survey participants reported that only their very basic needs are fulfilled and that care packages do not allow people to live independently.</description>

  <title>Redevelopment plans for the RNOH, Stanmore</title>

  <description>Aspire’s head office and the National Training Centre are based on the site of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. For years, the hospital has been working on getting planning permission for a complete redevelopment of the site to improve facilities and bring it up to date. Last week, Harrow Council gave the go ahead for exciting plans for a £98million rebuild.</description>

Residents were expected to use the higher rate mobility component of their Disability Living Allowance (DLA) to access the Motability Scheme to lease their own powered wheelchair, even when they had been medically assessed as needing one. </description>
