Welcome the New Year with ICEHOTEL

      Time: Dec 31, 2012 13:00 GMT - Feb 01, 2013 01:00 GMT
Location: ICEHOTEL, Jukkasjärvi, Sweden

New Year’s Eve on the Torne river bank in Jukkasjärvi is truly something spectacular. For the midnight stroke, locals and visitors from around the world gather in ICEBAR BY ICEHOTEL Jukkasjärvi to toast the New Year “in the rocks” rather than “on the rocks” in cocktail glasses made from blocks of Torne River ice. This year, Dutch stylist Marjolein Vonk and Marinus Vroom of theatre production company Vis à Vis are setting up a performance in an outdoor theatre made from ice and snow from Torne River. The show opens on 28 December 2012, with additional shows scheduled for 31 December 2012 and 5 January 2013.

New Year’s Eve also sees the premiere of photo exhibition and book launch “ICEHOTEL – a warm story about a cold place”. During the winter, visitors to ICEHOTEL have the chance discover the story about building ICEHOTEL, told through photographs by Anna Öhlund and light interpretation by John Pettersson. Light designer Pettersson and photographer/sculptor Öhlund team up to create an ephemeral photo exhibition and light installation made of frozen water from Torne River. The exhibition marks the launch of Öhlund’s photo book “ICEHOTEL – a warm story about a cold place” in which Öhlund skillfully captures the core spirit that descends on Jukkasjärvi each year as artists from all over the world gather for the immense undertaking to build ICEHOTEL.
