Scania launches stronger ethanol engine – easier for fleet operators to go green

Truck manufacturer Scania, is now launching a new 13-litre ethanol engine for the next generation of trucks. Swedish biofuels company SEKAB, expects the engine to increase demand for bioethanol ED95, making it easier for fleet operators to lower their carbon emissions.

​Representatives from eleven European companies and universities gathered yesterday in the Swedish town of Örnsköldsvik, to kick-start the EU-funded project Rewofuel. The long-term aim is to lay the groundwork for many new biorefineries across Europe, using wood residues from the forest industry to produce biofuels.

European financing package amounting to €13.9 million, of which €4.2 million for SEKAB. Industry consortium led by Global Bioenergies and bringing together SEKAB E-Technology, Graanul Invest, Neste Engineering Solutions, Repsol, PEAB, SkyNRG, Ajinomoto Eurolysine, IPSB, TechnipFMC and Linz University. Aim at converting softwood residues into isobutene derivatives for use in gasoline and jetfuel.
