Frazer Clacherty wins junior title at national mountain bike championships

SportsAid athlete Frazer Clacherty, 16 from Danby near Whitby, won a close race in July to take the junior title at National Mountain Bike Cross-country Championships in Shropshire.

It went right down to the wire with Frazer pushing Dylan Kerfoot-Robson and Thomas Craig for the lead for more than three laps before a collision between Kerfoot-Robson and Craig gave him the chance he had been waiting for, going on to win the title by 25 seconds with a time of 01:16:44.

After the win Frazer wrote to SportsAid to say he was thrilled with the result and proud to be able to wear the national jersey for the next 12 months.

It was another highpoint in a busy month for the young rider after being invited by SportsAid to meet the charity’s Patron, the Duchess of Cambridge, at the finishing line of the first stage of the Tour de France in Harrogate on July 5 which he described as “an amazing experience”.

“The Duchess asked me about my training and how I got into cycling and I explained how quickly it’s all escalated and how SportsAid has helped me,” he said afterwards.
