Next month, the UK’s biggest amateur golf tour will visit Stoke Park. The 1000-year-old estate will play host to the grand final of the William Hunt Trilby Tour 2012 on Thursday, 16th August. The grand final will see the winners and runners up of the ten regional events battle for the trophy on the Harry Shapland Colt designed course at Stoke Park.
The Trilby Tour is a multi event amateur golf tournament event, created by fashion designer William Hunt, where amateurs compete under professional conditions for the chance to win the top Winner Takes All prize. To add to the pressure, each round of the competition is filmed for Sky Sports. William thinks that this adds to the atmosphere, saying:
"I love to see grown men shaking at the first tee – some of them think they have it all under control and then they fold like a deck of cards in front of the cameras. And then they relive that moment when the screening comes out – now that's hard."
Begun in 2007, it has since grown at an incredible pace to become the biggest and most stylish amateur golf tournament in the UK. The 2007 event was played at Stoke Park so next month will see the tour returning to its roots. The Trilby Tour has also been a driving force in amateur golf, bringing it up to date and pushing standards to a very high level. Stoke Park is thrilled to be hosting the event which is sure to showcase some exciting golf, especially in the nerve-wracking four man, three hole shootout which decides the winner.
William says: “Stoke Park is a fantastic golf venue and one in which we are proud to be returning to. The standard of play this year has been incredible. Players have been telling me they have been practising all year for this moment - I can’t wait to see who this year’s champion will be. The level of competition has been extremely high – I don’t think it’s going to be easy for anyone. It’s going to be one hell of a final!”
The event is also sponsored by Callaway, who provide each entrant with a golf bag to go with their outfit, including trilby, provided by William Hunt.
