The failure of MEPs to introduce new restrictions on brominated flame retardants, or BFR, and PVC plastic is a disappointment and a missed opportunity.
May 19, 2010 10:47 BST ChemSec EU legislators are now in the process of deciding future restrictions on hazardous substances in electronics. An alliance consisting of Acer, Dell, Hewlett-Packard and Sony Ericsson, together with public interest organisations ChemSec, CPA and EEB, call on EU legislators to ban the use of all brominated flame retardants and PVC in electronics put on the market from end of 2015 onwards.
May 11, 2010 08:52 BST ChemSec A Market Overview presented today by ChemSec demonstrates the technical and economical feasibility of replacing brominated flame retardants and PVC in electronics, listing 500 products from 28 companies free from these problematic substances. Within the review of the EU RoHS directive, EU legislators now have a unique opportunity to restrict these substances from being used in electronics.
