Eckersley House Manager - Jane McHale Q&A

Jane McHale has been managing Eckersley House for 12 years. The 'Home from Home' supports families with children undergoing treatment at Leeds General Infirmary.

What’s an interesting fact about yourself?

At school I didn’t have the confidence to read out loud in class, never mind stand up and do public speaking. But now I feel confident to stand up in a group and can talk about The Sick Children’s Trust until the cows come home.

What do you most like doing when you’re not at work?

Socialising with friends and family and taking my six year old Bedlington X Poodle, Robbie, to the park with his ball. And of course listening to Robbie Williams!

What do you enjoy most about working as Manager at Eckersley House?

I enjoy working with the very professional team we have at Eckersley House. I have an ‘open door’ policy, and as the office is near the entrance to the house, I see families who are coming and going to and from the wards. They often call in for a chat and to update me on their child’s recovery.

I enjoy the different aspects of my role as House Manager, from admitting families, to budgeting, to organising and attending fundraising events, to making beds - every day is different, no two days are the same.
