#TeamSCT - Meet Georgie, who is running the London Marathon for us!

Name: Georgie Stillgoe

From: I live in London and work as a Children's nurse at Great Ormond Street hospital.

Can you tell us why you’ve chosen to run the Virgin Money London Marathon for The Sick Children’s Trust? I am running for The Sick Children's Trust because I have seen first-hand how much of a difference the charity makes to families with children GOSH. As only one parent can stay at the bedside, it can be very reassuring for the child, Mum or Dad to know that the other parent is only down the road if they need them (especially for families living far away from the hospital). Having a sick child is hard enough without having to cope alone.

The charity means they can have a ‘Home from Home’ and support the other parent. So many parents don't want to leave their child and end up staying inside their room all day. With a parent in accommodation nearby, they can take it in turns to pop out for coffee and a walk. The simple things are important for keeping people strong enough to cope!

I have really seen the difference in people's quality of life through the generosity of The Sick Children's Trust.

What are your top three training tips?

  • Don't compare yourself to others who may be faster or finding it easier than you, the fact you are doing a marathon is amazing!
  • Find something good to listen to as you run.. for me it's murder mysteries.. I'm so involved in the story I forget I've been running for three hours!
  • Run for a charity that you feel passionate about, when you are tired and want to give up, reminding yourself why you are running will give you a big boost!

What will keep you going on your way round?

Seeing my friends and family cheering for me on the day will definitely encourage me to keep going!
