Family give back to children’s charity with Mexborough fundraising evening

What: Family Fun Night

Date: Saturday 4th October

Time: 7pm

Location: Swinton Victoria Club, Mexborough, S64 8PU

Entry: £3

Lee and Nicola Tilson from Kilnhurst, South Yorkshire are giving back to a children’s charity that supported them by hosting a fundraising evening on Saturday 4th October.

Lee and Nicola were supported by The Sick Children’s Trust when their son, Alfie was diagnosed with a brain aneurism at just eight weeks old which was caused by a hereditary condition, Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia, a disorder where some of the blood vessels do not develop properly.

The severity of Alfie’s condition meant that he had to travel to specialist hospitals for treatment including Great Ormond Street Hospital and Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Miles from home, Lee and Nicola were able to stay close by to Alfie in the free ‘Home from Home’ accommodation provided by the charity; Rainbow House and Treetop House.

Alfie now 3 years old has recovered well and has just started school. His family and friends have decided to fundraise for the charity by hosting a family fun evening at Swinton Victoria Club. The evening will see local band, The C.U.B.S play a variety of pop hits, food and drinks as well as a raffle.

Lee, 37 says “The Sick Children’s Trust supported us at a time when we needed them most and enabled us to be there for Alfie all day, every day without the extra worry of where to stay or expensive travel costs. Now he is doing well we want to fundraise for the charity to help other families who have seriously ill children in hospitals far from home.

“It is set to be a great evening with food, drinks, music, raffles and much more. Our local community have been so supportive and we would like to say a special thank you to all the businesses in the area who have donated prizes to the raffle and also our close friends; the Owens family, the Frame family and the Tilson families who have helped us to organise the evening.”

Zoe Morris, Community Fundraiser at The Sick Children’s Trust says “We are so pleased to hear that Alfie is recovering well and are so grateful to Lee and Nicola for organising a fundraising event in aid of our ‘Homes from Home’. It costs us £28 to accommodate a family for one night in our houses so every penny raised will help us to support families who are facing the most difficult of circumstances. We hope everyone enjoys the evening and can’t wait to hear about it.”
