Loving mum to run half marathon in memory of son

Emma Dougal from Melton Constable, Norwich will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon next month in memory of her son, Isaac to fundraise for children’s charity, The Sick Children’s Trust.

Isaac Sillis was born 14 weeks prematurely at the Rosie Hospital in Cambridge and was immediately taken into the neo-natal intensive care unit. Emma and her partner, Lloyd were told that Isaac’s lungs were in a poor condition and he was put on a ventilator. Just weeks later after several complications Isaac’s doctors delivered the devastating news that there was nothing more they could do and he sadly passed away at just 36 days old.

While Isaac was in the Rosie Hospital, Emma and Lloyd were able to stay close by with their daughter, Rori-Tayla in Chestnut House, a ‘Home from Home’ provided by The Sick Children’s Trust.

Emma, 28, says “The Sick Children’s Trust is an incredible charity that gave Lloyd and I vital support when Isaac was poorly in hospital. To be able to stay just moments away from him at such a critical time was amazing. We could all stay together as a family and be there to create special memories that we will now treasure forever.

“Lloyd ran the Royal Parks Half Marathon last year to fundraise for the charity and this year it is my turn to take part. We will never be able to repay The Sick Children’s Trust for the support we received but I hope that the money we are raising will go some way towards helping other families in their time of need.”

Emma will be taking on the famous Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday 12^th October and hopes to raise £350 for the children’s charity. Already half way to her target, together Lloyd and Emma have raised a fantastic £625.

Zoe Morris, Community Fundraiser at The Sick Children’s Trust said “It is wonderful that Emma has decided to  take on the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon this year, we are so grateful to both her and Lloyd for their continued support. It costs us £30 to accommodate a family for one night in our ‘Homes from Home’ so the money they are raising will make a huge difference, enabling us to accommodate many families who are facing the most difficult of circumstances.”
