Top chefs to raise funds for Sick Children’s Trust with the Big Chocolate Brownie Bid this April

A whole host of the UK’s top chefs, bakers and chocolatiers are coming together for the Big Chocolate Brownie Bid, a mouth-watering auction in support of The Sick Children’s Trust.

Just some of the big names whipping up deliciously indulgent brownies include Chiltern Firehouse’s Nuno Mendes, Masterchef winner Tim Anderson, top chocolatier Paul A Young, Great British Bake Off winner Edd Kimber and Jamie Oliver’s right-hand woman Jools Oliver. Each will prepare a batch of 24 brownies to their own recipe, to be auctioned off this April.

The Big Chocolate Brownie Bid will raise money for The Sick Children’s Trust as part of their Big Chocolate Tea Party campaign. Running from noon on Friday 17th April until noon Friday 24th April, the online auction at www.bigchocolatebrowniebid.com

will feature incredible brownies including flavours such as Ed Loftus’s Macadamia Praline Brownie, Chocolate Creme Brulee, Salted Caramel Popcorn and Peter Gordon’s Original Beans Virunga 70% chocolate, macadamia, chilli and coconut brownie with matcha and white chocolate drizzle.

Each winning bidder will receive their batch of brownies on Thursday 7th May, in time to hold their own Big Chocolate Tea Party raising money for the charity’s campaign, which runs throughout the month. The site will feature a live leader board, allowing bidders to keep up with the action and regular updates will give bidders every chance to secure their prized win.

Paul a Young, Master Chocolatier and Vice President of the Sick Children’s Trust says: “I have been inspired and genuinely touched by what The Sick Children’s Trust provides for so many families across the country. The Big Chocolate Brownie Bid is the perfect opportunity for all the chefs involved to use our love of chocolate and create indulgent chocolate brownies for our lucky bidders to enjoy while raising money for such a fantastic cause.”

The Sick Children’s Trust provides 'Home from Home' accommodation at specialist children's hospitals around the UK, so that when a child needs critical care at a hospital miles from home, the whole family can stay close by to offer physical and emotional support. It is believed that having family support has a huge impact on a child's recovery, and being able to stay together takes emotional and financial pressure off the family unit. It costs £28 to host a family for one night.

The Sick Children’s Trust will be encouraging supporters across the UK to host Big Chocolate Tea Parties with friends, family or colleagues throughout May, with the aim of raising £100,000 for the charity.

The Sick Children’s Trust was founded in 1982 by two paediatric specialists Dr Jon Pritchard and Professor James Malpas. They believed that having parents on hand during hospital treatment benefited a child's recovery.

Today we have ten ‘Homes from Home’ at major hospitals around the country where families can stay free of charge, for as long as they need whilst their child is undergoing treatment.

Every year we help around 3,500 families, but there is a growing demand for our ‘Homes from Home’ as children must increasingly travel long distances to get the specialist treatment they need.

We are working to a future where every family with a seriously ill child in hospital will be able to stay together, just minutes from their child’s bed during their treatment.
