No child should wake up on Christmas Day without their family by their side. That’s why charity The Sick Children’s Trust is asking the nation to dig deep to support families with seriously ill children in hospital this Christmas, by donating £30 to keep them together in free ‘Home from Home’ accommodation.

Jemma was in labour for 24 hours before her son, Alfie, entered the world. Although he was born healthy and breathing, things soon took a turn for the worst when Alfie started having seizures. He was separated from his Mum and rushed to Cambridge for specialist cooling treatment. During his time in hospital, we supported Dad Luke and Grandma Donna in Chestnut House.

At a young age Connor was diagnosed with a condition called scoliosis, which is the curvature of the spine. By the time he was nine years old, his spine had curbed to 96 degrees. Last year, he had to undergo world first pioneering surgery at Sheffield Children's Hospital. During this time, his parents Michaela and Marios were supported at Magnolia House.
At Guilford Street House I could take a step back from the ward to recover from the physical and mental exhaustion.

Harry’s life is split between Great Ormond Street Hospital, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Warwickshire. Harry’s had to undergo major operations and his parents have been told several times that he may not live to see another day because he has a rare heart condition called Shone’s complex. His dad has been supported at Guilford Street House.
Until I was in that position I’d never considered how long some families are away from home, by their child’s hospital bedside.

Jack was born with a rare condition, duodenal atresia, which occurs in 6,000 babies. At just two days old, he underwent major surgery and remained in hospital for the first three weeks of his life . While Jack's mum could sleep on the ward, Jack's dad was supported at Crawford House. Jack is now doing really well and his family and friends have raised over £450 for Crawford House.
