Berkshire mums launch kids’ “Get Fit For Fun” campaign at Bisham Abbey this Friday 10th July

TotallyTween, the safe, exciting and informative digital platform for 8 – 12 year olds, set up by Maidenhead parents and businesswomen Clare Vincent and Gina Walter, will host the final of its local schools Skipping Challenge at the iconic Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre on Friday 10th July as part of a summer “Get Fit For Fun” initiative. Courthouse Junior School and St Edmund Campion Catholic Primary School are the finalists in the challenge and the event will be attended by The Worshipful the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Councillor Mrs Eileen Quick and GB Skipping Squad member Tiffany Branscombe.

As the issue of childhood obesity hits the national headlines on a regular basis, TotallyTween is launching “Get Fit For Fun” in an effort to inspire 8 – 12 year olds to get active, make friends and have fun over the summer holidays.

Announcing the initiative, TotallyTween founder Clare Vincent said, “Exercise has a positive effect on keeping mind and body healthy, so we want to motivate kids to get active this summer and engage in physical activity. We’re eternally grateful to James Palmer, Senior Sports Development Manager at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre for supporting us and providing the venue for our event and to Davies Sports for donating over £1000 of PE equipment in prizes.”

Commenting on Bisham’s involvement, James Palmer said, “We are delighted to host TotallyTween’s “Get Fit For Fun” event. We absolutely support this initiative to get Tweens up and down the country active, whilst having fun.”

Chris Mahady, Managing Director of Davies Sports added, “We are delighted to be working with such an inspirational new concept to get Tweens active and engaged in sport. We feel honoured that TotallyTween have opted to work with us and look forward to all the exciting things to come.”

The two RBWM schools in the finals took part in a skipping challenge which was open to children in years 3 – 8. Each class skipped for 1 minute, with the top 20 scores across these years being added together to create an overall total skips for that school. Holyport CE Primary School came a close third in the overall challenge, so has been invited to participate in Skipping Workshops with who will provide fun taster sessions including tuition in the “double dutch” technique. The “skip-off” between Courthouse Junior School and St Edmund Campion Catholic Primary School will culminate in a prize-giving by The Worshipful the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Councillor Mrs Eileen Quick and GB Skipping Squad member Tiffany Branscombe.

TotallyTween co-founder, Gina Walter explains the wide range of other activities kids can engage in as part of “Get Fit For Fun” this summer, “It might mean trying out windsurfing or wakeboarding down at Bray Lake, taking a Living Tennis course or having a go at Skiplex the UK’s only revolving ski slope, all of whom are kindly supporting our event. The kids could join a swimming or athletics club, go to surf school, join a street dance crew, try out a football taster session, play rounders, take up gymnastics or ballet or simply get on their bikes.”

TotallyTween’s young roving reporters will attend a host of summer sporting events including the London Youth Games, and “Get Fit For Fun” will be an annual initiative rolling out across the UK. Schoolwear suppliers Goyals of Maidenhead and Mailsports, one of the UK and Europe’s leading specialist retailers for swimwear are also kindly supporting the event.
