At a gym in Bristol a group of grapplers spent 24 hours of their Easter weekend on the mats doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the name of charity. Artemis BJJ, a member club of the UKBJJA, hosted a GrappleThon and raised £3000 for local charity One25, which supports vulnerable women, helping them to break free and build new lives away from violence, poverty and addiction.

Today, to celebrate International Women’s Day (Tuesday 8th March) the UKBJJA (UK Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association), is launching a major campaign called “Unstoppable Girl” to get more women involved in the martial art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The launch coincides with the release of a short film Jiu Jitsu Woman. The event takes place at Carlson Gracie London, 89 Richford Street, London, W6.

The UKBJJA (UK Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association) today made clear its intentions to defend the integrity of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as a distinct martial art and to challenge the moves by the BJA (British Judo Association) to set up a rival body to govern the sport through a subsidiary organisation, the BJJUKA (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu UK Association).

A talented youngster from Beckenham, Nia Blackman took home gold this weekend at the IBJJF Kids Pan Ams, the biggest junior BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) tournament for juniors in the world. In the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach California, Nia, who is one of the top junior yellow belts in the sport in the UKBJJA rankings and trains at New School BJJ Battesea, saw off the opposition in style to win.

Helen Currie was the first female to get her black belt in the UK and alongside husband Darren, runs Combat Base Gym, Pontefract. On 26 and 27 March Artemis BJJ in Bristol will be hosting a 24 hour Charity BJJ GrappleThon in support of One25 which works to help vulnerable women, and run in partnership with the UKBJJA's Unstoppable Girl campaign to get more women into BJJ.
