Liverpool students signal bright future for ship management

A presentation by three maritime Business and Management second year students from Liverpool John Moores University to employees signals a bright future for the ship management industry.

The presentation was delivered to V.Ship Offshore, part of V.Group, employees at our newly-acquired Bibby Ship Management office in Liverpool, which has long supported the University’s maritime programmes.

Oscar Cleve, Tom Barlow and James Wild were asked to develop a plan for the provision of effective ship management solutions to three vessels: a 65,000 DWT bulk carrier, 2,500 DWT coastal tankers and an 8,000 GT Dive Support Vessel.

Demonstrating a real passion and knowledge, the trio delivered a thorough analysis of the requirements for all three vessels, encompassing everything from crewing and technical management to office incorporation and onshore software requirements.

The audience, which included two former Masters and two former Chief Engineers, were left very impressed by the level of details the students provided.

Martyn Ramsbottom, Marine Superintendent and DPA/CSO, V.Ships Offshore says: “It is hugely encouraging that we have such talented, motivated students moving into the industry in the next few years. Institutions like Liverpool John Moores University play an essential role in preparing the next generation of seafarers and vessel managers for roles in the ship management companies of the future.”

Dr. Charles Roberts, Head of Maritime Management and Logistics at Liverpool John Moores University adds: “The support that Bibby Ship Management provides to our programme is absolutely vital in ensuring our students receive both a theoretical and practical understanding of the shipping world as a whole and especially of ship management operations. Bibby Ship Management has actively contributed to the next generation of maritime leaders and we thank them for their support.”This support will continue going forward with V.Group
