Top 10 Stress Busting Foods
Fruit For The Office
Feb 08, 2012 17:17 GMTThe words office and stress seem to be pretty synonymous nowadays. Office workers are always looking for things to make them feel less under pressure, so if you’ve squeezed the life out of your stress ball and Tai Chi leaves you wanting to punch a wall, take a look at this list of foods that will help you to fight stress in the workplace.
However. We’re not talking comfort eating here so back away from the biscuit tin. We are talking about foods that address certain chemical, hormonal imbalances that may have you feeling more stressed out than usual.
Milk – Milk has been proven to help insomnia and restlessness with the calcium content working to release tension. When things get stressful warm up a mug of milk and take 5.
Porridge – Porridge is one of those few comfort foods that are actually good for you. The slow release energy will leave you feeling full and the warming comfort factor will help to iron out some of that tension and leave you feeling relaxed.
Oranges – Full of vitamin C which will not only help your cold, it will reduce stress hormones too.
Fizzy Water – If you’re a cola addict feeling the stress, swap your tipple for fizzy water to reduce your intake of stress inducing caffeine.
Almonds – These nuts are full of vitamin E which boosts your immune system. There’s nothing like feeling ill to raise your stress levels.
Cereals – Wholegrain cereals are a great source of complex carbohydrate, another slow energy release.
Raw Veg – Stomp out stress by crunching on some raw veg, the physical action will help to unclench your jaw leaving you feeling de-stressed.
Pistachios – The green beauties are full of omega 3 which has a positive effect on the levels of stress hormone that are released into our bodies.
Black Tea – A recent study found that people who drank 4 cups of black tea a day had lower levels of cortisol than those who didn’t. Cortisol is known as the ‘stress hormone’ as it gets released into the blood stream when we’re feeling under pressure.
Dark Chocolate – Allow a small (or large) cube of dark chocolate to melt on your tongue. This will release a few happy hormones that will hopefully get you through the afternoon without throttling someone.
