CHALET CRAGGANMORE, CHAMONIX’S NEWEST LUXURY CHALET

From the breathtakingly vast Mont Blanc massif to the smallest helpful detail, Chamonix’s newest boutique chalet has it all. Built in 2008, Chalet Cragganmore takes full advantage of its spectacular location, allowing guests to make the most of both summer and winter in the majestic mountains.

It’s not just about location: it’s about the practicalities that enable complete enjoyment of everything these alpine slopes have to offer. It’s the bouldering wall in the gym, for guests to hone their technique and boost their confidence before they hit the world-class mountain climbing. It’s the outdoor hot tub, permanently heated by a geothermal system that also keeps the chalet cosy. It’s the mountain bikes in the garage. And it’s the specialist, bespoke advice and guidance chalet hosts can arrange for all aspects of guests’ visits, from skiing to golf, from climbing to cooking.

This distinctive chalet breaks the small-windowed ‘chocolate box’ mould. Instead it does credit to the stunning summer and winter landscapes, celebrating its prime location with atypically double-height windows and the abundance of natural, locally sourced materials used in its build. Owner Jennifer Martin commissioned third-generation architect Renaud Chevallier for their shared belief that the chalet should actively participate in its surroundings, and allow the mountainous backdrop to shine. She employed local artisans for the build, keen for the chalet to become part of the local community. Harmonious within its environment, Cragganmore makes the most of it both visually and environmentally.

The bespoke touches to the house’s six-bedroomed, modern interior are clear. Each room has been personally designed, with furniture and fabrics that work in both seasons. The considered details make visits a home-from-home, with that extra edge of luxury: iPod docks in most rooms; the Krups coffee machine; the wine cooler fridge; the cinema room with a Playstation 3, Wii and a selection of toys and board games. The suspended hand-built steel wood-burning fire in the living room is particularly impressive.

For active families, Cragganmore is the perfect base. Mountain biking, climbing, white water rafting, skiing, walking – all are within the immediate area, with a special mention to golf. The closest holiday chalet to the Chamonix du Golf Course, and within easy reach of some of Europe’s best courses across three countries, the chalet’s hosts can organise a specific golf package that encompasses green fees, lunch, practice rounds with the club pro, bio-mechanic and video analysis and can include transfers by helicopter if wished.

For older children, the chalet and surrounding area make boredom impossible. As well as the many adventurous sports, the beautiful L’Arve river flows directly behind the house, and the well-named Paradis des Praz play area is within walking distance, with its mini-ranch, pony rides and woodland trails.

The chalet offers the best in professional advice and assistance. A personal trainer can be arranged for the well-equipped gym, and the most experienced of high mountain guides have been selected to make tackling the peaks both safe and achievable. Cragganmore is offered on both a self or fully catered basis, with a private chef to discuss menu requirements before guests arrive for their stay. Particular emphasis is placed on the best quality, free range or organic ingredients, from local producers where possible. Whichever arrangement suits, guests will be welcomed by a host, acquainted with the chalet, and there is an in-resort team on 24-hour availability should any problems arise.

With the luxuries of space, design, location and service, Chalet Cragganmore’s mission statement is not only for guests to fall in love with their holiday home, but also in love with Chamonix.
