With the various versions of the bestseller NewWave Caffè, Villeroy & Boch has established a true recipe for success. Innovative production techniques were developed to manufacture the cups with their characteristically curved handles, but it is not only the cups themselves that have become firm favourites. The décors, which are introduced annually, make the cups ideal gift articles and attractive collector's items. Last year the new concept NewWave Caffè Animals of the World began with four motifs, all of which showed water birds.
In 2016 the focus is on the fascinating fish of the Australian Great Barrier Reef, one of the seven wonders of the natural world and a UNESCO world heritage site. As with the bird motifs, the fish look as though they have been hand-painted using watercolour techniques. The surgeon fish appears in a strong blue with touches of yellow and black. The triggerfish is green and yellow. And in black, yellow and white, the elegant Moorish idol is more subdued than the others. The matching plates show graphic lines reminiscent of abstract sea currents.
