New research commissioned by Vision Express shows that when it comes to being taken seriously, our glasses put us in the frame with over 60% (1) of Brits saying we’d wear glasses for an important work meeting and over half for a job interview (2).
Interestingly, although we’re happy to be ourselves in frames on a romantic break (49%) (3) and when on a date (39%) (4), it’s a different matter when it comes to our online persona. More than a third of the 2,000 UK adults polled by OnePoll for Vision Express admitted to slipping off their glasses for a social media photo (5), proving we really are a ‘selfie-obsessed’ nation. The same applies behind closed doors with three out of four Brits taking their glasses off in the bedroom (6).
With glasses largely associated with the office (64%) (7) it’s little wonder that 43% (8) of Britons find buying glasses too expensive with more than a third admitting they find choosing the perfect pair stressful (9). Vision Express is rolling out a new ‘Exclusive Brands’ collection this spring, which promises to help Britons take style seriously with a high quality, value for money alternative to designer glasses, with frame prices starting at £39.
It is also hosting a ‘Vision Boutique’ at its flagship Oxford Street East store during launch week (w/c 18th April) so glasses wearers can preview the new range, assisted by ‘Exclusive Brand Ambassadors’ to ensure a stress-free experience due to their broad knowledge and expertise when it comes to choosing glasses.
With nearly a third saying they always get opinions from other people when buying glasses (10), the ‘Vision Boutique’ will also feature a photo booth, which will contain a range of backdrops from romantic dinners to red carpets and tourist destinations, so customers can share photos of their short-listed frames with friends and family before taking the plunge.
Says Jonathan Lawson, CEO, Vision Express, ‘The eye health of our customers is our absolute priority and with more than a third of people putting off getting new glasses (11), it’s even more important for us to show people that buying frames which suit them can be a fun, cost effective and a stress free experience. We are confident that our expert team and the new Exclusive Brands range offers will give customers the choice and confidence they’ve lacked so far when it comes to wearing their glasses in social situations.’
