Finngenerator created by Finnish Tourist Board lets you know what you would be called if you were a Finn. The generator was launched in Japan last week, and so far over 1 350 000 names have been generated worldwide.
-The application has proved itself to be a successful way to attract people to our website visitfinland.com. There were over 140 000 visits to the Japanese version of the site, which has growth over 1 650% compared to the week before, says marketing director Mervi Holmén from Finnish Tourist Board.
Especially the Japanese market is interested in the Finnish nature language, and therefore the generator creates names from traditional Finnish names that have a nature related meaning. Many of the names come from Kalevala, the Finnish national epic.
What started with the Japanese market has now grown a lot, and the generator is especially popular in Finland, United States and United Kingdom.
Finngenerator campaign was planned and executed by SEK and media agency Voitto. The application was produced by Byroo. Finngenerator will be launched in China in April.
