Press release -

Dornoch of a new era

A brand new marketing campaign designed to “put Dornoch on the map” has been launched following a £40,000 cash boost from VisitScotland.

The national tourism organisation has match-funded the £80,000 ‘Discover Dornoch’ drive – which has seen 86 businesses in the Highlands town join forces to boost the domestic tourism market.

Specifically targeting people in the UK who are looking for an ideal short-break destination, the campaign will allow potential visitors to create packaged experiences on the www.visitdornoch.com website.

This will include a huge range of activities, including individual fly fishing lessons, golf tuition, private guided walks at Dunrobin Castle Gardens and expert whisky tasting.

Dornoch businesses will also be included in new voucher booklets, encouraging visitors to sample more of the town and surrounding area, which will be advertised online and in print media as part of the campaign.

Dornoch Area Community Interest Company, which is running the campaign, will organise a press trip to highlight the town’s appeal, but it is anticipated that the surrounding areas, including Tain and Easter Ross and Golspie, will also benefit.

Jenifer Cameron, Chair of Dornoch Area Community Interest Company, said: “The 86 members of DACIC’s Business Group are all delighted with, and grateful for, VisitScotland’s investment in Dornoch and the surrounding area.  Dornoch has a great deal to offer visitors and it is exciting that we can now tell the world about it.”

Scott Armstrong, Regional Director at VisitScotland, said: “Dornoch is a beautiful town with a rich history and heritage and we are delighted to support this exciting new marketing campaign through the VisitScotland Growth Fund. There is a wealth of things to see and do in the town, including playing a round of golf on Scotland’s most northerly Championship course and taking a trip to the outstanding beach. Tourism is more than a holiday experience – it creates jobs, sustains communities and provides and international shop window for Scotland.

“The Dornoch Area Community Interest Company has worked hard to bring this campaign to fruition, and we expect it to encourage many more people from all over the UK to ‘Discover Dornoch.’”
