Press release -

It's 'game on' at Angus VisitScotland Information Centres

Gaming enthusiasts are being invited to pit themselves against one another at two tabletop battle events taking place in Angus, whilst at the same time learning about attractions in the region.

The Return of the Blue Wizards event will be held at VisitScotland Information Centres (VICs) at the Harbour Visitor Centre in Arbroath’s Fishmarket Quay on Tuesday, 7th October; and at Pictavia Visitor Centre (pictured), Brechin Castle Garden Centre, Brechin, on Tuesday, 14th October.

Visitors can take part in tabletop war gaming scenarios based on the Lord of the Rings trilogy, in which the fictional Blue Wizards return north after wandering in the southlands. Those taking part can help decide the fate of the northlands and may even become the new hero or villain of the age.

VisitScotland Visitor Services Advisor, Ken Slater, who has organised the event, said:

“This is aimed at encouraging people who maybe wouldn’t ordinarily come into a VisitScotland Information Centre to come and see what we’re about. The idea is that the gaming battles are based in a tourist attraction in Angus. We can tell them about the local attractions and they can take away brochures to find out more about them, such as Arbroath Abbey and Montrose Basin.

“In terms of the game itself, the Dark Lord has long been vanquished and now is the time that the Blue Wizards return north after ages of wandering in the southlands. What is their purpose? Is it for the good of the free people or is their intent more sinister? We don’t know if they are good or bad wizards, those playing will decide!”

Both events will run from 10am to 4pm and gaming tables, terrain, dice, markers and figures will be provided. Visitors can bring their own warband/battle company if they wish.

For more information about the event, call Brechin VIC on (01356) 626050.
