Press release -

Alderney Literary Festival 2019

The Alderney Literary Trust proudly presents its 2019 Alderney Literary Festival on the 29th-31st March.

The Alderney Literary Festival is the Channel Island's boutique history festival, where people who enjoy reading and writing about the past come together to talk books and have a great weekend.

The Festival takes place over a long weekend every March in the historic Island Hall, Alderney's seat of government, built in 1763. Audiences are kept small to create an intimate and friendly feel to this 'salon' style gathering of historians, biographers, novelists, and fans of historical literature.

"This is our fifth Alderney Literary Festival and we are delighted at the strong following we've gathered in this short time. This year, we have our biggest audience ever, with practically every seat sold out and 70% of them coming from off-island. We have an amazing lineup of authors for our friendly historical book festival in the fabulous setting of our unique island. It's perfect! We can't wait to welcome everyone!"  Isabel Picornell, Festival Director.

In the Festival, history is explored through factual and fiction writing: biographies, thrillers and crime stories, the fantastical and the supernatural, romance, adventure, warfare and political analysis, and even poetry. Authors are asked to throw new light on old events and reinterpret them anew to make history relevant in the present time.

The 11 guest authors for 2019 span an extensive historical timeline and are a mix of historians and novelists with a talent of bringing the past to life for us - re imagining lost worlds or providing fresh insight into forgotten truths.

"The organisation was flawless and that's WHY this festival and the last were such a success. It's a great mix of contributors, organisers and audience. There's no festival quite like it." - Author, Simon Scarrow

This year the festival will be introducing the first ever Channel Island's Young People Literary Festival, hosted by the Students of St Anne's School, Alderney, in partnership with the Alderney Literary Trust.Celebrating the best young people books and authors, the Festival aims to bring critically acclaimed and bestselling authors to the School, giving Students the chance to meet their favourite authors, and for aspiring writers to learn more about the art of writing a good story. The international bestselling author Anthony Horowitz, is guest author for the 1st St Anne's School Young People Literary Festival, Anthony is one of the most prolific and successful authors in the English language, famous for his Alex Rider series for young adults, which has sold more than 119 million copies worldwide.
