Volkswagen had a successful night at the Car Dealer Used Car Awards, sponsored by Black Horse, held on Monday at The Brewery in London. The manufacturer and a number of its retailer teams claimed accolades at the event which was attended by over 400 people.
The top award for Used Car Sales Team of the Year went to South Hereford Garages, while Alan Palmer of Drift Bridge Volkswagen in Epsom, Surrey, was named Used Car Sales Manager of the Year. Commenting on the wins, Ian Plummer, Head of Sales for Volkswagen UK, said: ‘We’re extremely proud of these two awards and of our Retailers who have worked hard to achieve this success.
‘Tom Lyons at South Hereford Garages has led his team through a successful year. They provide the highest levels of customer service and have risen to the challenge of selling used cars within a very rural setting. The team have also been innovative in their approach to customer service, for example, by offering bikes to certain customers as a courtesy ‘vehicle’ which has gone down well.’
Plummer added: ‘Alan Palmer of Drift Bridge is also a credit to the brand. As Used Car Manager, he is fully supportive of Volkswagen’s Das Welt Auto programme and ensures all his staff are kept bang up to date through training and going that extra mile. His hard work has paid off as we can see in this award.’
Also commended in the Dealer categories were David Willoughby of JCB Medway in the Used Car Dealer Principal of the Year category and Windrush Maidenhead in the Used Car Dealership of the Year – 51 to 100 cars class.
From a manufacturer’s perspective, Volkswagen won the Used Car Marketing Scheme of the Year for its Das Welt Auto campaign, and was highly commended for its Manufacturer Used Car Scheme of the Year. The Golf was highly commended in the Used Car of the Year category, pipped to first place by the BMW 3 Series.
Also presented last night were Car Dealer’s ‘Ewards’ 2013. Here Volkswagen.co.uk was commended in the Car Manufacturer Website of the Year category.
Summing up the manufacturer’s achievements, Ian Plummer concluded: ‘We’re delighted with our performance at these awards. So much focus within the industry is on new car sales and products, but used car sales outstrip these and are a key part of any retailer’s or manufacturer’s business; they form a key part of our organisation’s overall approach to car sales within the franchise. Through the Das Welt Auto scheme, Volkswagen tries to make the experience of buying and running a used car as close as possible to that of a new car because that’s so important to our customers. They want high quality products with equally high quality back-up and support and we’re aiming to deliver that in all areas of our business.’
