In January 2013, Europe’s largest automaker successfully entered the World Rally Championship WRC. A second place in Monte Carlo followed by two first places in Sweden and Mexico now see the Polo R WRC and driving team of Sébastien Ogier and co-driver Julien Ingrassia leading the championship standings. From the end of March, Rally fans will be able to race the Polo R WRC on their smart phones and tablets – thanks to the launch of “RALLY THE WORLD. THE GAME”.
This is an innovative interpretation of classic racing games, and will be available in a free-of-charge mobile version for iOS and Android devices from today. In contrast to conventional racing games, the player does not assume the role of the driver but of the co-pilot and provides the driver with information on the course during the rally.
The challenge in playing RALLY THE WORLD. THE GAME is to guide the Polo R WRC through dangerous curves and over demanding route sections from a dynamic pursuer’s perspective. Apart from quick reactions, the game calls for clear tactics in order to achieve the ideal blend of planning, timing and speed. The more often players complete the course, the more experience points they receive, giving access to further virtual competition countries and command cards.
As well as the mobile version, the racing game is also available as a web browser variant at www.rallytheworld.com. On this website, all players can also compete for genuine prizes in addition to taking part in virtual races.
RALLY THE WORLD. THE GAME is part of Volkswagen’s international motorsports campaign “Rally the World”. The key element in the campaign is the online platform www.rallytheworld.com which features interviews, photos, videos and reports in addition to real-time sports reporting and information on the new Polo R WRC.
The game is available from the Apple App Store for iOS and via Google Play, Android Pit and the Samsung Store for Android.
Volkswagen UK is one of the country’s largest importers, accounting for almost one in ten of every car sold. The company sells a wide range of vehicles which range from compact city cars through the best-selling and renowned Golf, Polo and Beetle models, to luxury saloons and 4x4s.
