Swansea Gymnastics Centre wins Welsh Government backing for ICT improvements

Swansea Gymnastics Centre, a social enterprise which offers over 25 gymnastics classes per week, has received backing from Communities 2.0, the Welsh Government's digital inclusion programme.

The support will help the organisation to streamline its business processes and invest in new gym club management software.

Swansea Gymnastics Centre is implementing its new ICT improvements after receiving an ICT review from Communities 2.0. The review helped the organisation assess its existing equipment and identify training needs. This support will help Swansea Gymnastics Centre to upgrade ICT and server equipment and install up-to-date firewall software, club management software and touch screen facilities.

Communities 2.0 is a Welsh Government programme which is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Swansea Gymnastics Centre was established in 1977. The Centre currently has 20 gymnasts working in its elite squads and over 600 in its recreational classes. This year they have six girls and nine boys in the Welsh National Squad and one girl and two boys in the British National Squad. The club currently offers more than 25 classes per week that cater for all ages and abilities (from grass roots, parent and toddlers classes to elite and international representation). They have recently been awarded British Gymnastics Gym Mark Accreditation, which certifies the Club has been approved as a safe, effective, child-friendly club.

Gareth White is Acting Chair of Swansea Gymnastics Centre. He commented:

“Not only are we delighted with the success of our application, but we have been really impressed at the depth of knowledge, expertise and professionalism of Communities 2.0 officers. We have no doubt that their extremely thorough ICT review and also guidance during the application phase, has ensured we will have the ICT infrastructure we need to continue offering top class gymnastics instruction and training in Swansea.”

Communities 2.0 project director Cathryn Marcus commented:

“Communities 2.0 is delighted to be able to add its support to this investment in Swansea Gymnastics Centre. The Centre offers an important service to families and individual athletes in Swansea and this investment will help the organisation to deliver its services more efficiently and effectively.”
