Luxury penthouse sees light with low energy LEDs

The £7,800 contract is estimated to save residents approximately £600 per year from their utility bills.

Family-run firm Hedley Park commissioned Washington-based Glowled Ltd to design and install an Intelligent LED (Light Emitting Diodes) Lighting System for their luxury penthouse apartment situated at the riverside in Durham City.

The goal was to ensure that the lighting in the penthouse was not only flexible and energy-efficient, but also augmented the luxurious and beautiful spaces that the apartments offer.

Arzhang Tahmosybayat, LED Lighting System Consultant at Glowled, said: “We ensured that the lighting was not only functional and cost-effective but also complimented the unique and beautiful design in the apartment with the ability to dim the lights to create different ambiences.”

River Court's Penthouse also features clever design details such as ceiling boxes in the hallway with LEDs in side-lighting upwards to create a halo effect, down-lighting strips inset into walnut on the living-room steps, and special cabinet lighting.

With such a modern high specification apartment we were keen to make the building as environmentally-friendly and low maintenance as possible, providing the purchaser with savings on running costs of their new home.”

River Court was designed to be a low maintenance residence. All external windows and doors have been fitted with vinyl wrap frames so no external painting is required, the building has high insulation, all heating operates via thermostats so no unwanted heat is created and all appliances have high energy ratings.

The communal areas are fitted with light sensors so that they are only on when required, which helps to keeps the service charges for the building to a minimum. The development also features secure underground parking for all apartments and the access drive to the car park is heated to prevent the inconvenience of icing conditions in the winter.

It is located on the riverside in Durham with views of the old racecourse, castle and cathedral.
