New call on diagnostics - BIO-X Start Up

A new form of BIO-X is soon to be tested within the framework of a call-for-proposals in diagnostics. Its goal is to secure earlier customer and market validation.

The selection method for the call, which opens in early September, has been revised, particularly in the so-called start-up phase. The goal of this revision is to secure early customer and market validation. Increased financial support may also be achievable. In addition, the period for assessing the proposals prior to finally deciding which will go on to become one-year BIO-X projects is extended from two months to four.

“We have updated the process because we already know that proposals that have successfully passed the regular selection process have an increased chance of securing other funding”, says Malin Wiederholm, Product Manager for BIO-X. “By strengthening the process and creating opportunities for funding soon after initial selection, we believe that even more projects will win financial support from other parties”.

In concrete terms, the revised call format means that about ten projects will each receive up to SEK 100,000 during their four months in BIO-X start-up. Malin sees this not only as streamlining the projects, but also as a way to use public resources more efficiently; to make projects attractive for private capital earlier than is the case at present.

“With this more intensive initial phase, we believe that a one-year support period for projects may be sufficient to achieve their proof-of-concept, or even to acquire external funding directly after start-up”.

The overriding theme of the coming call-for-proposals is diagnostics. The exact topic, which will be based on defined healthcare needs, will be presented in conjunction with the call opening in early September.
