“We need to bring business and innovation support closer to companies”

Uppsala Business Park is home to approximately half of the life science workforce in Uppsala. And the future looks promising. Furthermore, extended on-site support for growing companies is now an important part of its expansion plans.

The future vision for Uppsala Business Park is that of a fully self-sufficient entrepreneurial district comprising all the necessities for work and play, and also easily accessible from both Uppsala and Stockholm. Conextion is now a central part of this vision. Conextion is a brand-new collaboration between property-owner Klövern and Uppsala BIO located in the midst of Uppsala Business Park where half of the city’s life science professionals work today.

A new dedicated meeting place

Margaretha Gadnell, Director of Life Science Cluster Development at Uppsala BIO, is also the project leader of this new initiative.

“With Conextion, we aim to create a physical meeting place as well as an interface for interaction and growth for the companies located in Uppsala Business Park”.

Starting early 2018, lunch seminars will be offered in the new premises, which are dedicated to the project. Margaretha is currently planning the programme.

“We will focus on forward-looking topics, such as immaterial property and clinical research. Those interested can simply drop by to have lunch, listen and interact.

Consultants from several support functions will also be available in the project room on a rotating schedule, as well as representatives from Uppsala’s innovation support system.

Strong cluster – a unique selling point

“Uppsala Business Park offers an amazing opportunity to house a substantial part of the region’s future life science growth. With the backing of Klövern and Uppsala County, we see it as a given to offer the support of our experience and network”, continues Margaretha.

Uppsala BIO’s goal is to help businesses grow and stay in Uppsala; to make the region attractive to companies and employees. In order to achieve this, it is important to foster collaboration and cooperation among Uppsala’s life science ventures. Uppsala Business Park is the perfect location for realising such a goal. Since it is based on the infrastructure of the former Pharmacia, facilities essential for life science operations, e.g. research and production, are already in place.
