SEP Cullen's Live 11500 Space Center Blvd Houston, TX 77059
The Houston “Hands Across the Gulf” Benefit Concert is the thrid of a 6 concert series taking place in the Gulf Coast states to assist communities affected by the Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The Houston Benefit will be donating proceeds from this event to Horizon Relief, founded by Kevin Viosin, 8th generation oysterman (Motivatit Seafoods) and Councilman District 6, Terrebonne Parish, LA. Horizon Relief was founded to provide immediate financial assistance to the seafood industry workers whose lives were disrupted due to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Disaster. As this short term need is met, they are also working with other seafood industry organizations to advocate for and sustain the industry into it’s unknown future in the Gulf.
Attendees will be entertained by a variety of Nationally touring and local musicians throughout the night. In addition, there will also be "Hands Across the Gulf" commemorative t-shirts for sale and raffle tickets for chances to win lots of prizes.
Several experts on the topic of the effects of the spill on the environment and the commercial fishing industry will be there, including George Barisich, President, United Commercial Fisherman's Assoc. and
Diane Wilson, 4th generation shrimper, Founder of Codepink.org
