Avinode Passes the 7 Million Request Mark

The Avinode Marketplace has received its 7 millionth request! This event occurred at 11:50 UTC on August 12th 2013, just five months after the total number of flight requests in Avinode passed the 6 million mark. This is quick growth for a marketplace that passed the 1 million mark only five short years ago.

For those of you that are less familiar with the inner workings of the Avinode Marketplace a Flight Request is pretty much what you might imagine. Professional buyers looking to source charter on one of the many aircraft in Avinode’s searchable database use the tool every day to request flights in real-time from operators around the world. Operators can then choose to accept or refuse the request.

Approximately 5500 requests go through the Marketplace every day, thought the numbers can vary fairly substantially from season to season and even from day to day. July and August are generally the high water mark for requests each year, while December and January tend to be the slowest months.

Nearly half of all requests that go through the system today are from Europe, but other parts of the world are showing strong growth. Buyers in the U.S. and Canada sent 26% more requests in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year. Buyers in Africa also increased their usage in the period, with 12% more requests than in 2012. The hands down growth leader, however, is Latin America with a 48% increase in flight requests during the first half of 2013.
