Nobel Week Dialogue 9 Dec. 2014, Stockholm

The Age to Come – New scientific and cultural perspectives on ageing

Nobel Week Dialogue is a one-day event that invites the wider public to meet and engage with a unique panel of Nobel Laureates, world-leading scientists and thought-leaders on topics of global concern. Free to attend and live-streamed for an international audience, the objective of the meeting is to deepen the dialogue between the scientific community and the rest of society.

We believe that the topic for this year’s dialogue, ageing, will truly capture the public’s imagination – it is a subject that affects us all. In the year 2000, for the first time in history, there were more people in the world aged 60 and over than there were children below the age of 5. And while increasing average life expectancies is undoubtedly one of humanity’s greatest achievements, a steadily ageing global population brings with it a range of new challenges and opportunities.  What implications does the change in demographics have for economic growth in different parts of the world? How will welfare systems adapt as longevity increases and birth rates decline? And we may live longer, but how has our quality of life changed?

The meeting in Stockholm is just one part of this international dialogue – through our online and social media channels, we will reach a global audience, and the discussion starts now. Event topics are presented at, together with the six Nobel Laureates already confirmed to attend.

To tie in with the event, we will be able to offer members of the international press a limited number of opportunities to interview these Laureates, along with the other exciting panellists still to be confirmed.
